We’re willing to bet you’ve spent most of 2025 bundled up and indoors. Cupid’s Undie Run presents a reason to do the exact opposite!
Participants in more than 30 cities around the US will suit up in their skivvies for a mile-ish fun run and dance party to raise money for a worthy cause. The Raleigh-Durham event takes place Saturday, February 1, at Motorco Music Hall.
We talked with Perrie Smith, event director for Cupid’s Undie Run in Raleigh, to find out why you should sign up to freeze your buns off.
What’s the story behind Cupid’s Undie Run?
Cupid’s Undie Run began in 2010 in Washington, DC, when a group of friends dropped their pants and ran through the cold to raise money for research to help end NF, a group of genetic conditions that cause tumors to grow on nerves. Inspired by one of the founders’ families, the event continues to raise critical funds and awareness for the Children’s Tumor Foundation.
Describe what the event day is like!
A day party with a purpose! We get all warmed up and ready for the “run” with some dancing, mingling, and a drink (or two!) and then take to the streets in our undies. We run just a “brief” mile-ish lap around the block and return to the venue to continue the epic dance party and celebrate the top fundraisers.
Why undies?
Because we WANT people to stop us and ask us WHAT we are doing. We bare it all to raise awareness and money for NF research. The money we fundraise goes to the Children’s Tumor Foundation and the incredible research and clinical trials that help those living with NF.
Won’t it be super cold? Do I have to be in my underwear?
It will be cold, but that’s what makes it fun! This year, we’re is fueled by the support of two amazing companies: national partners Woxer and Pair of Thieves, both back for a second year to help make the events a success in its effort to end NF. And lots of our participants wear costumes, onesies, tutus, and more. Some cities even have costume contests!
What is NF?
NF refers to a group of genetic conditions that cause tumors to grow on nerves throughout the body. NF affects about 170,000 in the US. Anyone can be born with NF, and it affects everyone differently. It can lead to blindness, deafness, bone abnormalities, disfigurement, learning challenges, disabling pain, or cancer. There is no cure yet. Money raised at Cupid’s Undie Run supports the efforts of the Children’s Tumor Foundation — and everything CTF does drives treatments for all NF patients.
How much money do the runs typically raise?
Cupid’s Undie run has been around for more than 10 years and has raised over $25 million for NF research. Some of our top cities bring in over $100,000 each year.
Any tips for the best ways for participants to fundraise?
