Have ice cream for breakfast!
A build-your-own sundae experience is just one of many classes presented by the James Beard Foodie Foundation as part of the Creative Kitchen Kids Food Fest at Marbles Kids Museum May 3 and 4.
The fest includes a weekend of activities dedicated to teach families about how to make balanced food choices and pick up kitchen skill, plus a hearty dose of silliness and entertainment.
In Moore Square, free performances throughout the weekend include the YMCA Super Skippers, Baile Folclórico Vicky with a celebration of Mexican dances, the Raleigh Rockers street show, Bouncing Bulldogs jump rope team, and others. Burn some energy with Fun Foodie Flow yoga, hip-hop step aerobics, and other movement classes. And enjoy public cooking demos like Master Chef Junior Contestant Emerson Pauley’s Famous Salmon with Pear Couscous and Rainbow Carrots, or Learning through Food & Fun with Cricket and Pepper.
Other classes in the James Beard Foundation Future Foodies lineup include Sandwich Making with Chef Katsuji Tanabe from Flour & Barrel, Indian Nachos with Preeti Waas from Cheeni Durham, Puerto Rican Empanadas with Chef Christopher Prieto from Prime Barbecue, and several others. The Future Foodies classes require preregistration and cost $25.
The Balanced Plate Scavenger Hunt offers learning through play (and some goodie bag prizes).
