Festivals for the changing season

Ready to shrug off the sweaty days of summer and dive head first into cozy season? Us too. Check out these local events that celebrate the transition into fall.

The End of Summer Block Party

Saturday, August 30, 1-11 p.m.
Gipson Play Plaza at Dix Park, Raleigh

Send summer out with a bang at this free fest. Open the day with sassy aerobics or a yoga session before the main events: 2 stages with 16 bands representing 13 genres including indie, roots reggae, jazz, funk, pop, soul, and more. Food trucks, vendors, family activities, and other fun awaits.

Family Day Fall Festival

Thursday, September 11, 4–8 p.m.
3117 Poplarwood Court, Raleigh

Shop vendors, enjoy food truck fare and ice cream, and groove to live music at this free family- and pet-friendly fest. Kid-centric activities include games, face painting, and crafts.

Whiskey, Wine & Fire

Saturday, September 13, 4-9 p.m.
Koka Booth Amphitheatre, Cary

The name speaks for itself! Get cozy and relax around the fire with all-you-care-to-taste whiskey and wine. VIP session starts at 4 p.m. and includes a Passport of Tastes from each grilling station plus a bottle of wine. General admission starts at 5 p.m. Prices vary, but tickets are 35% off through Aug. 31.

Triangle Oktoberfest

Friday, October 3, 5–10 p.m., and Saturday, October 4, noon to 8 p.m.
Koka Booth Amphitheatre, Cary

The largest and most authentic German festival in North Carolina showcases traditional Bavarian food and more than 50 beers, plus live music by the King Guys Oktoberfest Brass Band. Enjoy wiener dog races, family fun of all kinds in the Kinder Platz zone, a stein hoisting competition, and more. $20 and up.

Falling for Local 

Saturday, October 4, 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Dix Park, Raleigh

The Big Field at Dix Park will be buzzing with live music, inflatables, games, hay rides, and even a free pumpkin patch. Sate your appetite with dozens of onsite food trucks, and whet your whistle with North Carolina craft beer.  Plus, shop from more than 150 local vendors.
