She Persisted: OPAL LEE by Shelia P. Moses Book Release

The She Persisted book series spotlights women who spoke up and rose up against the odds. Opal Lee grew up in Texas during segregation. As a teacher and community leader, she worked to ensure a better future for all people, and helped establish Juneteenth as a national holiday. Children can learn ways to follow in Opal Lee’s footsteps with this illustrated chapter book featuring an introduction from Chelsea Clinton.
Raleigh Women’s History Walking Tour

This tour was created to highlight the incredible women who helped make Raleigh the fabulous city that it is today! On this tour, you will learn about several amazing women, including the city’s first female mayor, one of the most influential women in the civil rights movement, and the woman who earned the nickname “Lady Edison” because of her numerous inventions! Tours are “pay what you want” ($15-20 per person recommended) and require preregistration.

On Thursday, March 14, hear from keynote speaker NC Auditor Jessica Holmes at a Legislative Breakfast from 8-10 a.m. Holmes became the youngest Commissioner in Wake County history in 2014. As auditor, she works to improve government services, identify wasteful spending, and ensure programs involving public health, education, and economic growth are serving the public good.
