Ground broken on Hampton Inn & Suites-Glenwood South

Glenwood Hospitality Associates LLC, a subsidiary of Prime Investments and Development LLC of Greenville, has broken ground on the 126-room, boutique-style Hampton Inn & Suites-Glenwood South at 600 Glenwood Ave. in Raleigh. The hotel is the first new lodging construction project in the Glenwood South district.

"We have an energetic, growing hospitality team with great philosophy and vision. We feel this formula will enable us to continue to grow and thrive in this economy," says Sue Glennon, vice president and director of business development.

"We are extremely proud of the opportunity to bring a first-class, boutique-style hotel to downtown Raleigh's Glenwood South market. This area is the perfect location to combine the No. 1 flag in the country with a boutique style and culture to the heart of the entertainment district," adds John Van Coutren, CEO of hospitality for Glenwood Hospitality Associates.

Construction of the Hampton Inn & Suites-Glenwood South is scheduled for completion next winter. When completed, the hotel will have 126 guest rooms, including 20 studio suites. The exterior of the hotel will incorporate the aesthetic character of the Glenwood South district.

Project plans include a six-story, 80,000-square-foot building with 1,000 square feet of retail space facing Glenwood Avenue; the Perfect Mix Lobby, a lifestyle patio facing Johnson Street; 1,400 square feet of flexible meeting space; an executive boardroom; indoor pool; and state-of-the-art fitness center by Pre-Cor.

During construction, the project will create 175 to 200 jobs, with an estimated labor payroll of $3.2 million. Once open, Glenwood Hospitality Associates plans to hire 35 to 40 employees with an estimated annual payroll of more than $800,000 in gross wages.
